About the Role – AI/ML Software Engineer
The Compliance Engineering team at eBay focuses on prohibited, restricted, and counterfeit compliance detection, ensuring that our marketplace meets all relevant regulations and policies. We design and maintain AI-driven tools and scalable backend systems that detect illegal, harmful, or non-compliant products using machine learning models, Gen AI solutions, and rules-based engines.
This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI/ML applications that directly impact trust, safety, and the customer experience on a global scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Build large-scale applications, low-latency APIs, and data pipelines to enhance eBay’s business operations.
- Design and implement metadata-driven platforms for ingestion of attributes, rules, policies, and AI models.
- Develop machine learning models and generative AI tools to improve detection and customer experience.
- Collaborate with architects, business leaders, and industry experts to develop scalable AI solutions.
- Own the full software development lifecycle – from design and development to testing and deployment.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering growth and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 3–5+ years of software development experience.
- Strong expertise in AI/ML/Gen AI, LLMs, and running AI models in production.
- Proficient in Java, Scala, Python with frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Hands-on experience with APIs, distributed systems, and frameworks like Spark, Flink, Kafka.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, MapReduce, Hive).
